Conceit versus Loving Yourself. Do you know the difference?

Do you know the difference between conceit/vanity and loving yourself? We often see articles and posts on “self-love”. We all know what it means to be conceited. There is a huge difference between the two.

Mariam-Webster’s dictionary definition of vanity is as follows; “Inflated pride in oneself or one’s appearance: conceit”.

Loving yourself is completely different.

Loving yourself is our true essence.

We were created so perfect. Society conditioned us to think otherwise.

It is time to get back to who we truly are.

Think of a small child. Loving themselves comes naturally. Look at all the YouTube videos of little kids in mirrors smiling and talking to themselves.

So confident, so self-assured with absolutely no shame in doing so. We love watching these videos but somehow, we don’t think the same way as an adult.

We are each a beautiful, loving soul.

How did that change? Why?

For most of us, when we were children and expressing self-love, we were told, “Don’t say that! People will think you are conceited!”

We were shamed for loving ourselves. It was a bad thing.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Vanity and conceit are hollow. They have nothing to do with love.

It’s absolutely ok to love yourself, be proud of yourself.

After all, you were created as this perfect person with light shining through your entire being.

Think about babies. They laugh and giggle. They are silly. They look in the mirror and make faces and laugh. This picture is my grandson. He was laughing and saying, “Look! There are three Jameses.”

We need to do this more as adults.

When is the last time you looked in the mirror and made funny faces and laughed. It isn’t something I do, that’s for sure!

What do I do?

I tend to dance around the kitchen to disco. Yes, I am that old! Haha!!

We just aren’t silly enough as adults. It is time to have fun with that little kid inside of you.

Try it. You may just surprise yourself when you giggle.

If you’re interested in learning more self-love techniques, I am offering a Heal Your Life® workshop on March 30th called Journey to Self Love. It will be fun and enlightening. The link to register is provided below and also HERE.
